A Native Roman

Born in Rome, the son of the late William A. and Barbara Staple Gannon, John is a third generation Roman. He attended Fort Stanwix and Strough schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. His wife, Anne, is an instrumental music teacher in the Rome City School District.

Having been born and raised in Rome, John chose to raise his own family here. He and his wife, Anne have five children: Fallon, John William, Ryan, Dylan, and Brandon. The Gannon children attended Rome Schools, including: RFA, RCS, Strough, Ridge Mills, Fort Stanwix, and 1st Presbyterian Nursery School. Growing up, Gannon family activities included: dance, piano, swim team, ice hockey, AYSO soccer, karate, and Rome Family YMCA, and many RFA sport events, including football, soccer, and lacrosse.

Well grounded in his community

A good judge is well grounded in their community. Judge Gannon has always been very involved in his community in Rome. He served as President of the Senior Citizens Council of Rome, NY, Inc. for twelve years and as President of the Fort Stanwix PTG. He has coached youth soccer for both AYSO and Copper City and served as legal advisor for the Rome Girl’s Softball League. He has also served as a member for the Budget Advisory Committee for the Rome City School District. He and his family worship at St. Peter’s Church in Rome.

Experience

Judge Gannon is exceptionally well qualified to continue to serve as Rome City Court Judge and is committed to professional standards as he has demonstrated by his service in that position for the past 24 years.

In addition to Judge Gannon’s 24 years of experience on the bench, John has successfully practiced law for seventeen years. John has worked as an attorney in Rome from 1988-2002 alongside his father, the late William A. Gannon and then continued that practiced through 2012.

Judge Gannon graduated from Colgate University and Vermont Law School. John is a member of the New York State City Court Association and has served as past President, past Vice-President, and past Secretary-Treasurer for the Association. He is also a member of the and New York State Bar Association, the Oneida County Bar Association, and the Rome Bar Association.
